A customer who’s saving money on his energy bills after having cavity wall insulation installed at his home says he can now buy more food with the spare cash.
Walter Preston, who lives with his four cats in Oundle, also had damp and mould treatments done, as well as new extractor fans and door undercuts.
The work was part of our Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund wave three project, in which we’re investing around £41 million to improve the energy efficiency of around 2,000 homes.
Walter said: “The house used to be expensive to keep warm – the heat used to escape quite easily.
“I was excited when I was told I could have the work done. Knowing the house would be easier and cheaper to heat made it really appealing.
“It’s warmer in here since the work was done and that’s nice for me and the four cats!
“My energy bills are coming down slowly and I’m really pleased with that as I can use the extra money to buy more food and make sure I have everything I need.”

Walter, who has worked on farms for much of his life and has a collection of toy and model tractors and combine harvesters at home, said that while it was a little bit noisy during the work, the benefits far outweighed any negatives.
He added: “The communication was great. I was kept up to date throughout and I knew what was happening and when.
“Everyone was nice. It was a bit noisy, but I expected that.
“I let them get on with what they had to do as I knew the improvements would be worth it.
“I’m very pleased that it’s now done and I’m looking forward to the benefits carrying on and saving even more money.”
Asked to sum up his experience of the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund project, Walter couldn’t be more positive.
He said: “I’m happy and everything has been worth it.
“I’d encourage other customers to have this work done if it’s offered to them. The result will make their home much better for them.”
