We’re delivering 57 new affordable homes in a Bedfordshire town – including nine purpose-built supported-living flats for residents with learning disabilities.

Working in partnership with Living Space, we’re building the homes on land at Hand Post Field in Houghton Regis.

Archaeology work started in early January, with construction work due to start imminently.

This development will be the latest phase of housing expansion in the area and will offer a varied mix of one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom bungalows, and two, three, and four-bedroom houses.

By including purpose-built supported-living flats for residents with learning disabilities, we’re also enabling more people with higher support needs to live independently and securely within their community.

Marcus Keys, Chief Development and Commercial Officer, said: “This development will create a new mixed tenure community and will enable local people to either take the first step towards their homeownership dream or have the chance to rent a quality and affordable home.

“It’s great to see work getting underway on the site, and we’ll continue to work closely with Living Space as construction progresses.

“I’m looking forward to watching the development mature and welcoming our new customers.”

The homes will be made available for social rent and Shared Ownership and the development is earmarked for completion in November 2027.

Fay Hirel, Director of Housing Services, added: “Being able to provide supported living accommodation on this site is really important to make sure local people live in their own home and receive the support that meets their needs.

“These flats will replace a financially unviable arrangement which is currently in place, meaning we can offer the security of tenure to customers who we’ve been supporting for 10 years.”

Paul Breen, Managing Director at Living Space, said this development extends his company’s successful work in Houghton Regis.

He added: “Our in-house architectural team has designed a scheme that balances quality, sustainability, and community needs, supported by the technical expertise of Levee Consulting.

“With Chris Allen as Site Manager, residents can be assured that their homes are being built to the highest standards.”
